ABOUT THE ARTIST

new web site home page

Carmelita was born in Venice Illinois to Tokie Timmons and William Ackers.  After graduating from Hazelwood Central High School in Florissant Missouri, she received 2 partial scholarships to Washington University for the summer in 1984, which sparked her creative passion for the visual arts.

Tokie Timmons (mother) always ensure that all of her children would stay active in the arts. As a result her oldest, Carmelita , was comprehensively involved in Fine Art classes, singing, dance, and martial arts from the age of 5 on through high school.

Rebellious as most teens, from mother’s stringent conditioning, the artist postponed college and got married at the age of  17 to a Filipino medic in the United States Navy (Michael Acid),  and had three children.   She became a mother shortly after , but still she   exhibited her art work through art exhibits , festivals and market places throughout the St.Louis area and abroad.  Her greatest achievement, says Acid, “is being a mom”. As a result, Acid had 3 beautiful children, whom followed in her footsteps, Michael Acid 28 Jr., Avianna Acid 27, Brandon Acid, and later with her second marriage, Kiarii Hooks 9.

“My children are my masterpiece collection” .

After 8 years of marriage Acid divorced, and as a single mother she still continued to exhibit her artwork , and perform in local Country Clubs, bands, dance instructor, and became a self- sufficiency counselor for Lake County Community action (FEMA Board member), to support her family.

Michael Acid( the oldest son) a visual artist (fashion), graduated from FDIM, (World Traveler, linguist (Arabic, French, Spanish, Tagalog, English), ex-Navy, business Major. Avianna Acid (oldest daughter, Ms. Flagstaff  2011, American Idol contestant (on billboards from LA to San Diego in 2015), (World Traveler) singer-songwriter, visual artist, backpacking guide, graphic designer, and currently singing internationally. Brandon Acid played(the youngest son) football and wrestled for Colony High School in California where he won several awards, and continued to play football and rugby at Whittier College .

Brandon, also  paints as well.  After marrying her second husband (Kevin Hooks, whom is also a talented artist ), she had her forth child,  little Kiarii Hooks is following in their footsteps, high academics at her Charter school, (A+ California Bench Mark testing) and her artwork is remarkable for the age of 9.  Mrs. Acid-Hooks kept both married names to honor her children.

“Mother knows best!” Tokie ingrained in Carmelita to be all that she could be, and Carmelita in turn, she ingrained in her children the same work and educational principals.

As generations before, all of the children paint, sing, dance, and hold high academic standing in school.  She attended CASA school of performing arts for visual and performing arts since the age of 13 in St. Louis MO.  After the children finished college, Carmelita went back to college at Chaffey Community college holding 3.00 to finish her fine arts and business degree.

Acid has raised money for several charitable organizations through auction and performance; Dionte Coates Foundation for sickle cell disease, Women’s lawyers association in Clayton MO, American Red Cross in St. Louis MO, American Cancer Society in Mexico, MO, Alternatives to Living in a Violent Environment (ALIVE project),etc.

Her work has been seen in : St. Louis, MO, Chicago, ILL, California (Riverside, Pasadena, Lynnwood, Venture, Ontario, Fontana, San Bernardino ,etc.), Florida, Ohio, Mexico, MO, Tennessee, North Carolina, Bahamas, Israel, and  Venice, Italy(One of  2 American artist to show)1998 nationwide  artist calls.
